Katie Newton and David Raftos from Macquarie University are working with the NSW Department of Primary Industries to gather baseline biodiversity data for new marine national parks.

As part of their study, they are measuring growth rates of the colonial ascidian, Botrylloides leachi (pictured) at SIMS' Chowder Bay campus. This work complements biodiversity assessments being undertaken in the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park in an effort to make informed decisions about marine park design and management.
