To provide the facilities our scientists require to conduct their important work we must look beyond our University Members for further support and in the future we will be relying more and more on public and private funding.
Through our community network SIMS can offer different degrees of commitment and as we are a "Deductible Gift Recipient" all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
SIMS can offer members of the community that wish to take a responsible stand four different opportunities to become actively involved. We offer three different areas for membership for those that would like continuing involvement which are listed below, or if you would prefer you may wish to make a one off donation to the institute.

Levels Of Membership

FutureMaker (F) who will help shape the history of SIMS. Through a single contribution of $5,000 you will be placed on the limited list of 20 FutureMakers - those founder members who will jumpstart SIMS in its research. FutureMakers will be Patrons for life.
Patrons (P) need only commit to $1,000 per annum for three years - or more!
Members (M) who are the lifeblood of SIMS. For only $100 per annum, members and their families will be privileged to involvement in life-long learning of Sydney's waterways.

Why Become Involved?

There are benefits and the most important is the knowledge that you will be playing a major role in Australia's scientific history. But apart from this reassurance, depending on what level you commit to, you will be:

  • Listed as one of twenty on the list of those who contributed to the founding history of SIMS. (F)
  • Invited to join a group of research scientists for a day (F)
  • Among the first to learn of internationally important ground-breaking results of the research (F,P)
  • Invited to special family tours to meet scientists and view their research (F,M,P)
  • Invited to lectures from local and international marine researchers (F,M,P)
  • Invited to attend the Annual Dinner (F,P,M)
